USBs rock

picture this: you're trying to come up with a cool gift that has both the charm of something homemade, the fun of something cool, and the spirit of piracy. this just might fit the bill! (is that a real phrase? i don't know. it's 2:42 AM and i can't sleep.)

things to put on a thumb drive gift

  • charms! many flash drives have a convenient hole through the end so you can hang it from a lanyard or something. adding charms here makes the memory stick feel like a cute personalized Thing that won't get lost as easily!
  • music! pretty self explanitory. you can go for things you know they'll like, or things they'll be curious to try!
  • images! i put a lot of pictures of my cats on mine, as well as all the funny zoom backgrounds and wallpapers my laptop has collected over the years.
  • GAMES! the internet archive has loads of games, and some are downloadable! putting them on the USB just makes it that much easier for your friend to get the game. i also included a .txt file with this link, https://www.numuki.com/, which is a website that has TONS of old flash games from my childhood! it has games from american girl, nickelodion, and so much more! try it try it try it try it
  • books! maybe you have a fanfiction you want to trade! i dunno! the internet archive has books as well
  • crafts!! i included jpeg instructions on how to make a felt shrimp stuffed animal, how to make your desktop shortcuts look like cows, and how to make a one page zine. the possibilities are endless!
  • resources! i also added in a list of all the free software and tools that are just Out There on the Internet if you know where to look. one example is photopea, the in-browser photoshop clone! it's great!
  • and that's that! now you can give your friend this little data stick full of Treasure. it's like if emails and paper mail fused
